Hey all, I was in Zanzibar for a bit of R&R so I wasn’t able to post or respond to all the wonderful people who wrote me. But now that I’m back, I’m ready to tackle the next concert and respond to everyone!

Here are a few pictures from the trip:

In the meantime, if you have any ideas, suggestions, advice, complaints about Hidden Concerts, please let me know! As this is an ongoing work (in progress), I’m so open to anything that will make the experience better for everyone.

Merci! And see you soon.

Thanks to Dman, director/cameraman/editor extraordinaire!

Merci to everyone who made the first Hidden Concert so much fun last night!

I was too nervous to drink any wine, eat any food or chow down on the “Don’t Mess With Texas” brownies (by fabulous backup vocalist and baker Vanessa de Richemont), but it was wonderful to watch Brent Arnold captivate the audience and even better to perform for such an appreciative, amazing crowd!

Thank you all again, but especially Dman, my incredibly patient and supportive hubby who was everything from decorator, door guy, camera man, PR person, food server, and of course, partner to a rather stressed out and not-very-nice performer/party organizer.

I love Brent. Aside from being a genuinely nice, smart and interesting person, he’s also one of the most creative musicians I know. That’s why I asked him to help me produce Love Like Everyone. He’s also why I got my butt into gear about launching Hidden Concerts. I couldn’t miss out on the chance of him coming to tour in Europe and not play here!

Here’s a clip of him performing in Japan:

I know you’re sick of hearing me say this, but the first show is this Friday, February 4th!! Reserve your space now, if you haven’t: hiddenconcerts@gmail.com.

Ack! The first Hidden Concert is happening this Friday! Have a ton of things to organize still, along with rehearsing, but am not feeling overwhelmed yet. (Talk to me on Thursday…)

If I can talk by then.

Have been a little over-zealous with rehearsing and am now on vocal rest all day today. I’ve done this before so should know better, but I’m excited and happy to be playing… and am now trying to pantomime-parent my toddler.

In any case, a shout-out to Girls Guide to Paris who were kind enough to post something about Hidden Concerts on their Facebook page. Merci, Doni!

See you at the first Hidden Concert! There are a few spaces still left for Friday’s show. If you’d like to reserve, please email hiddenconcerts@gmail.com.

Thanks to Laurie at The Paris Blog, Hidden Concerts has gotten its first bit of press—yay!

The first concert is fast approaching so reserve your spaces now: hiddenconcerts@gmail.com. Spots are quickly filling up thanks to all the positive response, so thank you everyone, and don’t delay on reserving if you’d really like to attend the first Hidden Concert.

Talking about myself in the third person (as in the post title here) is always weird, but because I am one of the musicians performing on February 4th (!) and because many people probably don’t know who I am, what kind of music I make, etc… I wanted to post a couple of interviews to give you an idea.

This one was for a TV pilot about Asian-American artists and parts of it took place in my old NYC apartment!!! I kind of miss my old pad. This was when my record Rocktease came out:

This second interview was in NYC, right before my Love Like Everyone record release party at Dominion. I was almost 7 months pregnant here, but thought I was hiding it well. Ha. I look at it now and it’s so obvious that I’m knocked up, especially when you see me from a side angle. But I’m impressed with the gleaming skin and hair—because neither of those things look that good now. Pregnancy really does make you glow:

And here are my Facebook and Myspace pages, if you’re inclined to know more and become a fan!

Without further ado, we’re (happily, excitedly, nervously) launching the first Hidden Concert, featuring Brent Arnold and yours truly, Maggie Kim, with special guest guitarist, Alainman.

When: Friday, February 4, 2011
Who: Brent Arnold (on tour from NYC) and Maggie Kim (on tour in her hallway!) with guitarist Alainman
Time: Doors open at 8:30 pm. Music starts at 9:00 pm.
Cost: Special HC launch price of 25 euros!!! Includes food, drink and music!
Reserve: hiddenconcerts@gmail.com

We hope to make this first concert a memorable one so people will say, “Oh, I was at the first-ever Hidden Concert and it was amazing!”

XO~M

I’ve had this idea for several months and like most things (at least for me, anyway), it’s happening very quickly and perhaps a little haphazardly because of a convergence of events:

1) Painting of our hallway is finally finished
2) A musician friend (my producer for Love Like Everyone, actually) is coming on tour to Europe and asked where he could play in Paris. My answer: “My hallway!”
3) Following in that grand tradition of “If you build it, they will come,” I’ve decided that I’m going to have to create my own (non-lame) music scene in Paris because at the moment, my current (lame) music scene involves me playing and singing at home, to an audience of two (hubby and baby.)

Thus, Hidden Concerts is born! <signal the fanfare>

The big idea is to have musicians from far and wide (friends and friends of friends)* play a private acoustic or slightly electrified concert in our just-painted hall—a music hall, if you will. The evening will consist of great music, plenty of wine and yummy nibbles, all included in your ticket price. Details on how it all works can be found at FAQ.

I hope you like this idea as much as I do. I want to create a space that’s wonderful and welcoming for musicians and music lovers alike. As a musician, it can be difficult to find a place to perform that’s actually artist-friendly. As a music lover, it’s rare to have an intimate, civilized concert experience—no awful crowds, no scalpers, no bad seats; basically a live concert at home.

Alors…

Vive Hidden Concerts!!

*Lest you think my musician friends (and friends of friends) might be dabblers who, well, suck, there will be links to websites, mp3s and reviews of the performing artists so you know ahead of time who you’ll be seeing. Also, my friends (and FoFs) include major label artists, Grammy winners and all-around awesome musicians.
